28,000 acres of land illegally occupied: DC Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The government has yet to take possession of 28,000 acres of land retrieved after encroachment, informed the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqat.

The Standing Committee on Housing and Construction, chaired by  Senator Haji Hidayatullah Khan, directed DC Islamabad to submit a detailed report on the illegal development activities on the retrieved land.

In addition, a sub-committee headed by Senator Saifullah Abro was formed to look into these matters.

While discussing the issue of employee housing, the housing secretary informed that 2,800 homes had been vacated from unauthorised tenants in the last three years. 33,000 employees are still waiting to receive a house. 

The meeting also received the progress of the development work by the National Construction Company. A total of 250 projects have been completed, whereas seven projects worth Rs1.82 billion is underway.
